My Personal Rating: 4.8/5

When I stayed at Monticle Glamps, my experience was nothing short of amazing. Every morning, I woke up to stunning views of the tea plantations and the cool, fresh air really set the mood for a relaxing getaway.

The rooms were clean, spacious and elegantly designed. I especially loved the cozy feel of the private balcony where I spent a lot of time just soaking in the views. The staff was always warm and welcoming, with a special mention to Gauri and Unnikrishnan, who went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed. Their service was professional friendly and it added a personal touch to my stay.

The fire camp in the evenings was memorable experience. The staff lit it up on request without hesitation, making the nights even more special.

The food was great, although I agree with some reviews that certain dishes could be improved, like the mutton.

Mountain Villa, Vagamon | Nature's Retreat

My Personal Rating: 4.8/5

When I stayed at Mountain Villa, it felt like I had stepped into a different world, away from the hustle and bustle. The location is very secluded, and the views were breathtaking. The cottages are nestled in a peaceful.

What stood out the most was the off-grid experience—no electricity, no Wi-Fi, and limited mobile coverage. It really allowed me to switch off and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. The property is run on solar power, which aligns perfectly with its eco-friendly approach. The food was simple but delicious, made from fresh ingredients, and the staff, especially Joshy, was so helpful, making sure everything was just right.

The jeep ride to the villa was quite an adventure since it's the only way to reach this remote spot. But once you’re there, it’s a haven of peace and quiet. I highly recommend Mountain Villa if you're looking to immerse yourself in nature and enjoy some tranquility.

When I visited Vagamon Vagashore with my partner, it was the perfect couple-friendly resort for a peaceful and relaxing escape. The serene location with stunning lake views and cool, misty weather made our stay feel like a retreat into nature.

We stayed in one of the Executive Rooms with a Lake View, and the scenery from the balcony was breathtaking. Waking up to the sight of the calm lake and surrounding hills made our mornings extra special.

My Experience at the Best Places to Visit in Vagamon

My Personal Rating: 4.8/5

I just got back from an amazing trip to Vagamon!  I want to share my personal experience visiting some of the best spots in Vagamon so that you can plan your trip with confidence.

Vagamon Meadows

I had heard a lot about Vagamon Meadows, but seeing it in person was something else! The endless green fields stretched out like a carpet under the blue sky. It felt like I had stepped into a dream. The fresh air and cool breeze made my morning walk so refreshing. I took tons of photos, but honestly, no picture can do justice to the beauty of this place.

My Tip:

If you visit, try to go early in the morning to enjoy the meadows without too many people around. It's so peaceful at that time, and you can really take in the beauty of the place.

  • Entry Fee: It's completely free.
  • Activities: Walking, picnics, and photography.
  • Best Time to Visit: I went in December, and it was perfect—cool and pleasant. I recommend visiting between September and March.
  • What to Bring: Comfortable shoes, water, and your camera (trust me, you’ll want it).

Vagamon Pine Forest

I’ve always loved forests, and Vagamon Pine Forest didn’t disappoint. Walking through the tall, towering pine trees felt surreal, especially with the sunlight streaming through the branches. It’s a perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon. I even found a quiet spot to sit and just soak in the calmness around me.

My Tip:

The ground can be a bit slippery, especially if it’s rained recently, so make sure to wear shoes with good grip. And take a moment to just sit and breathe—it’s a great place for a little bit of meditation.

  • Entry Fee: Only ₹10.
  • Activities: Hiking, photography, or just sitting and enjoying nature.
  • Best Time to Visit: September to March when it’s cooler.
  • What to Bring: Light jacket, comfortable shoes, and snacks for a quiet break.

Kurisumala Hill

This was one of my favorite experiences! I’m not a super experienced trekker, but the hike up Kurisumala Hill was manageable and well worth it for the view at the top. The hill is also a pilgrimage site and I met a few fellow travelers on the way who shared their stories with me making the hike even more special. The view from the top is breathtaking—totally worth the climb.

My Tip:

If you’re looking for some peace and quiet, go during the early morning hours. The hike isn’t too hard, but it’s always good to take it slow and enjoy the journey.

  • Entry Fee: Free.
  • Activities: Trekking and meditation.
  • Best Time to Visit: Early morning before the sun gets too hot.
  • What to Bring: Good shoes, water, and maybe a small snack.

Vagamon Falls

I’m a sucker for waterfalls, so I had to check out Vagamon Falls. I went just after the monsoon season, and the falls were absolutely stunning. The sound of the water was so calming. I found a nice spot nearby to sit and just listen to the falls—it was the perfect break from the day’s adventures.

My Tip:

The area around the falls can get slippery, so walk carefully. Also, avoid going too close to the water—it’s beautiful to look at, but the currents can be strong.

  • Entry Fee: Free.
  • Activities: Relaxing by the falls and photography.
  • Best Time to Visit: Post-monsoon (September to December).
  • What to Bring: Non-slip shoes and maybe a raincoat if you're visiting during the monsoon season.

Mundakayam Ghat

This place took my breath away! Mundakayam Ghat is known for its paragliding, but even if you're not into that, it’s worth visiting for the stunning views. I went around sunset, and it was one of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen. The sky turned shades of pink and orange and the view of the valley below was incredible.

My Tip:

If you’re feeling adventurous, try paragliding! I didn’t get the chance this time, but I’ve heard it’s an unforgettable experience. Even if you don’t, make sure to catch the sunset—it’s magical.

  • Entry Fee: None.
  • Activities: Paragliding, photography, and picnics.
  • Best Time to Visit: I recommend sunset—between September and March for the best weather.
  • What to Bring: Sunglasses, water, and definitely your camera!

General Tips for Visiting Vagamon

  • Cash is King: Not all places accept cards, so make sure to carry enough cash.
  • Weather: The weather in Vagamon can change quickly, so pack a light jacket even if the sun is shining.
  • Transport: Some spots, like Kurisumala Hill and Vagamon Falls, might require a bit of walking or off-road driving, so plan accordingly.
  • Local Food: Don’t miss out on the local Kerala dishes! I had some of the best meals of my trip here, especially at the small local joints.
  • Respect Nature: As always, keep the place clean and respect the local environment. Vagamon is such a beautiful place and we should all do our part to keep it that way.

How to Get to Vagamon: My Personal Experience

Getting to Vagamon was a smooth and scenic journey for me, but I know that planning a trip can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. So, I’m sharing some useful tips on how to get there, based on my own experience. Whether you're traveling from nearby cities or further away, I’ve got you covered!

 By Air

The nearest airport to Vagamon is Cochin International Airport, which is about 75 km away. From the airport, you can either rent a car or take a taxi directly to Vagamon. I recommend pre-booking a taxi, as it saves time and ensures a smoother trip. The drive itself is beautiful, with winding roads and lush greenery all around.

  • My Tip: If you're planning to explore other nearby areas, renting a car from the airport might be more convenient. Otherwise, a taxi works perfectly fine, and the ride is comfortable.

By Train

If you prefer traveling by train, the nearest railway station is Kottayam, located about 65 km from Vagamon. From there, you can hire a taxi or hop on a bus to Vagamon. The train ride to Kottayam offers picturesque views, and it’s a relaxing way to travel. I’ve found that the local taxis from Kottayam are quite affordable, and the drivers are usually knowledgeable about the area.

  • My Tip: Book your train tickets in advance, especially during the peak travel season. Also, try to schedule your trip so you arrive in Kottayam early, giving you plenty of time to travel to Vagamon before it gets dark.

By Road

This is how I traveled, and I loved every minute of the drive! Vagamon is well connected by road, and you can easily reach it from major cities like Kochi (100 km) and Kottayam (65 km). I rented a car for the trip and took the scenic route from Kochi. The winding roads and views of tea plantations and valleys made the journey unforgettable. There are several local buses that also run from Kochi, Kottayam, and other nearby towns, but if you prefer more comfort and flexibility, I suggest renting a vehicle.

  • My Tip: If you're driving yourself, take it slow—some parts of the road are narrow and winding, but the views are worth it. Stop by the roadside tea stalls for a refreshing break!

Getting from Vagamon to Munnar: A Scenic Route You’ll Love

During my trip, I couldn’t resist taking a day to explore Munnar, and let me tell you, the drive from Vagamon to Munnar is absolutely stunning. Here's how you can make the most of this scenic journey:

By Road (Private Car or Taxi)

The best way to travel from Vagamon to Munnar is by road. The distance is about 100 km, and it takes around 3 to 4 hours, depending on the road conditions and how many stops you make to soak in the views (and trust me, you’ll want to stop!). I hired a local taxi for the trip, and the driver was not only knowledgeable but also knew all the best spots for photos.

  • My Tip: If you’re a nature lover like me, leave early in the morning. That way, you can take your time to enjoy the drive and even stop for a picnic along the way. The road passes through tea estates, forests, and hills—you don’t want to miss it!

By Bus

There are regular buses that connect Vagamon and Munnar, and it’s a great budget-friendly option. The bus ride might be a bit longer than by car, but it’s a good way to experience the local culture and enjoy the views.

  • My Tip: Buses tend to fill up quickly, especially during weekends and holidays. So, if you're taking the bus, try to board early to get a window seat for the best views!

Important Tips for the Vagamon to Munnar Journey:

  • Best Time to Travel: I found that the months between October and March offer the most pleasant weather. The roads are clear, and the misty mornings are a treat for the eyes.
  • What to Bring: If you’re traveling by road, pack some snacks, water, and a light jacket. The weather can be unpredictable, and it can get chilly, especially as you approach Munnar.
  • Entry Fees & Activities: Both Vagamon and Munnar offer many nature-based activities like trekking, visiting tea plantations, and exploring waterfalls. Be prepared for some small entry fees at popular tourist spots, but most places are open for free.

FAQs for Visiting Vagamon: Based on My Experience

Visiting Vagamon has always been a special experience for me, and I know it will be for you too. Whether it’s your first time or you’ve been before, these FAQs based on my personal visits should help you make the most of your trip.

Based on my trips, the best time to visit Vagamon is from October to February. The weather is cool and perfect for exploring the hills. During the monsoon (June to September), Vagamon is lush and green but expect heavy rains, which might affect travel and outdoor activities.

  • My Tip: I went in December, and the weather was absolutely perfect for long walks and exploring the sights. If you're okay with occasional rain, the monsoon is beautiful but be prepared for slippery paths.

I’ve traveled to Vagamon by road, but here are all the options:

  • By Air: The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport, about 75 km away. I recommend pre-booking a taxi from the airport, or you can rent a car if you want to explore nearby places too.
  • By Train: The nearest railway station is Kottayam, about 65 km away. From there, I’ve found taxis to be the easiest way to reach Vagamon.
  • By Road: This is my personal favorite! The drive is scenic, especially if you’re coming from Kochi (100 km). Renting a car or hiring a taxi is a good option, but local buses also connect Vagamon with nearby cities.

Yes! I’ve taken my family to Vagamon, and we loved it. Resorts like Heaven Valley and Mountain Villa offer family-friendly amenities, spacious cottages, and activities that the whole family can enjoy.

My Tip: If you're visiting with kids, I recommend choosing a resort that has an activity area or garden space where they can safely play.

What are the best places to visit in Vagamon?

I always tell my readers that Vagamon is about experiencing nature more than ticking off tourist spots. Here are my top recommendations:

  • Vagamon Meadows: Perfect for a morning walk or a peaceful picnic. Go early for some quiet time!
  • Wear good shoes, as the ground can get slippery.
  • Kurisumala Hill: Ideal for a short trek with rewarding views at the top.
  • Vagamon Falls: Best visited after the monsoon for the full effect of the waterfall.

Absolutely! I’ve had a fantastic experience at Vagamon Vagashore, which is known for being couple-friendly.

My Tip: If you’re traveling with your partner, choose a resort with lake or hill views for a more romantic experience. Also, call ahead to confirm their couple-friendly policies if you have any concerns.

Here’s a list based on what I brought:

  • Clothing: Light, breathable clothes for the day, and a light jacket for the evenings as it can get chilly.
  • Footwear: Comfortable shoes, especially if you plan on trekking or visiting the Vagamon Pine Forest.
  • Essentials: Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat for daytime. An umbrella or raincoat if you’re visiting during the monsoon.
  • Extras: A good camera or smartphone because the views are spectacular, and you’ll want to capture every moment.

I’ve found Vagamon to be perfect for a mix of adventure and relaxation. Here’s what I recommend:

  • Trekking: Kurisumala Hill is a must for trekkers, and the views from the top are breathtaking.
  • Nature Walks: Take a peaceful walk through Vagamon Meadows or Pine Forest.
  • Paragliding: If you’re into adventure, head to Mundakayam Ghat for paragliding. I haven’t done this myself yet, but I’ve heard it’s incredible.
  • Campfire: Many resorts offer campfire setups—one of my favorite ways to spend the evening!

During my last trip, I took a scenic drive from Vagamon to Munnar. The distance is about 100 km, and the journey takes around 3-4 hours. You can hire a local taxi or drive yourself if you enjoy road trips. There are also buses available, but they take longer.

My Tip: If you’re driving, leave early in the morning to enjoy the misty views along the way. Pack snacks and water for the journey—it’s a long but beautiful drive!

Yes! Many resorts offer local Kerala cuisine, which I highly recommend. I especially enjoyed the traditional meals at Heaven Valley Resorts—simple, delicious, and homely. Some resorts have limited options, so it’s always a good idea to ask for the menu in advance.

My Tip: Try the local fish curry and puttu for breakfast—it’s a Kerala specialty and absolutely delicious!

Here are a few things I learned from my own trips:

  • Carry Cash: Many places don’t accept cards, so having cash on hand is helpful.
  • Respect Nature: Vagamon is all about its natural beauty, so let’s do our part to keep it clean.
  • Time Your Visits: If you're visiting places like Vagamon Meadows or Kurisumala Hill, try to go early in the morning or late afternoon for the best views and fewer crowds.

A Perfect Family Getaway at Monticle Glamps

10/09/2024

I recently visited Vagamon with my family after reading Sujith's guide, and it was a fantastic experience. The Monticle Glamps was a perfect choice for us. The views from the private balcony were breathtaking, and we enjoyed the fire camp in the evening. Sujith's recommendation to stay at least two days was spot on. We made the most of the adventure activities too. Thanks for the detailed guide, Sujith!

Beautiful Views, Cozy Stay at Palette Hill View Resort

13/08/2024

Palette Hill View Resort was beautiful, but I felt the rooms could have been a little bigger, as mentioned in Sujith's guide. However, the infinity pool was everything I hoped for, with those incredible views of the misty hills. The staff were very friendly, and we felt well taken care of. I would recommend this resort, especially for couples seeking a peaceful retreat.

Fun Family Time at Heaven Valley Resorts

18/07/2024

I stayed at Heaven Valley Resorts, and I couldn’t agree more with Sujith's review. The family cottages were spacious, and the kids had a blast in the activity area. The campfire and BBQ were the highlights of our trip. The guide's advice on what to bring and when to visit Vagamon was super helpful. This blog really made our trip easier to plan.

Secluded Peace at Mountain Villa

10/09/2024

I stayed at Mountain Villa after reading Sujith's blog, and while the off-grid experience was peaceful, it was a little too secluded for me. No Wi-Fi or electricity is great for some, but I prefer staying connected. That said, the views were stunning, and I appreciated the eco-friendly approach. I would recommend this place for nature lovers who want a real escape from the world.

After reading Sujith's guide, I booked a couple's getaway at Vagamon Vagashore. Everything was as described—the lake view from our room was incredible, and the staff were so welcoming. It was a peaceful retreat, just as promised. The road leading up to the resort was a bit tricky, but it was worth it for the stunning views and the serenity. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a romantic escape.

Great Nature Spots but Limited Food Options

16/09/2024

I loved visiting Vagamon based on Sujith's recommendations, especially Vagamon Meadows and Pine Forest. Sujith was right about the best time to visit—December was perfect for cool weather and beautiful scenery. However, I wish there were more options for food near the resorts. Overall, the guide was a great help in planning my trip.
