Munnar is a popular hill station in Kerala, known for its cool weather, tea plantations, and beautiful scenery. I’ve visited Munnar many times and in this blog, I’ll share my list of the BEST 9 resorts in Munnar that will make your trip relaxing and memorable.

Table of Contents

Best Time to Visit Munnar

Each season in Munnar offers something special:

  • October to February (Winter): This is the perfect time to visit. The weather is cool and you can enjoy the misty hills and fresh air.
  • March to May (Summer): The temperatures are warmer, but Munnar is still cooler than other places in Kerala, making it a great escape from the heat.
  • June to September (Monsoon): Munnar is very green during the rainy season, and the waterfalls look amazing. However, heavy rains might affect outdoor activities.

I prefer visiting after the rains in September because the landscape is lush, the air is fresh, and there are fewer tourists.

My Stay at Tea Valley Resort

My Personal Rating: 4.6/5

I recently stayed at Tea Valley Resort in Munnar, and the experience was nothing short of rejuvenating. The mornings here are particularly magical, with mist rolling over the hills, giving a surreal vibe to the entire stay.

The room I stayed in had a private balcony that opened up to the breathtaking views of the tea plantations. It wasn’t the most luxurious accommodation, but it was clean, comfortable and cozy, providing everything I needed for a relaxing getaway. Best Places to Visit in Munnar - Tea Plantations, Wildlife, and Scenic Views
Image of best places to visit in munnar

best places to visit in Munnar

I’ve explored a lot of places in Munnar during my travels. Here are some spots you must visit:

Tea Gardens in Munnar: My Experience

The tea gardens in Munnar are one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. Everywhere I looked, there were rolling green hills covered in neatly planted tea bushes. Walking through these gardens felt peaceful and refreshing.

The first thing that caught my eye was the beauty of the endless tea plantations.  The silence of nature, broken only by the sound of the wind and birds, made it a peaceful experience.

Workers showed me how they pick the best leaves by hand, a skill they have mastered over the years. I even got a chance to taste fresh tea right from the source.

Important Tips:

  • Entry fee: Some tea gardens may charge a small fee, around Rs. 50 per person, for entry.
  • Activities: You can walk through the plantations, learn how tea is harvested, and sometimes join a tea-tasting session.
  • Best time to visit: The best time to visit the tea gardens is from September to March when the weather is pleasant and the tea fields are lush green.
  • What to bring: It can get chilly, so wear warm clothes. Comfortable shoes are also a must as you’ll be walking through uneven paths.

Echo Point in Munnar: My Experience

Echo Point is one of the spots in Munnar that brought out the child in me. Located about 15 km from Munnar, I had heard a lot about its natural echo phenomenon, and I was eager to visit. When I arrived, I was not disappointed. The place was full of people laughing and shouting, all trying to hear their voices echo back. When I yelled, the sound came back to me, and it was such a fun experience!

One thing I loved was the serene environment. The beautiful scenery around the lake with tall trees and rolling hills made it even more special. I also tried boating, which added to the excitement. Pedal boats and kayaks are available and it's a great way to explore the calm waters while enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

The place was not overly crowded when I visited, so I could relax and enjoy the echoing sounds and nature around me. It’s a great place for families, couples or anyone looking to reconnect with nature and have some fun.

Important Tips:

  • Entry Fee: The entry fee is around Rs. 20 per person, and children under 5 can enter for free.
  • Activities: Shout to hear your voice echo, enjoy boating (Rs. 400-600 depending on the boat), and explore the lake area. You can also get your pictures clicked by local photographers.
  • Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit is during the monsoon or cooler months (June to February) when the greenery is lush, and the echo effect is strong.
  • What to Bring: A raincoat or umbrella if visiting during the rainy season, and don’t forget a camera to capture the stunning views!

Rajamalai (Eravikulam) National Park: My Experience

Rajamalai, part of the Eravikulam National Park, is one of the most amazing places I’ve ever visited in Munnar. The national park is known for its scenic beauty and for being the home of the rare Nilgiri Tahr, a mountain goat that is hard to find elsewhere. When I visited, I was lucky enough to spot several of these goats, which made the trip even more special.

The journey starts with a bus ride provided by the park. It takes you up through the beautiful hills, with waterfalls and streams along the way. The ride itself is a treat, especially if you love nature as much as I do. Once the bus drops you off at the base station, there’s a short uphill walk to reach the best viewpoints.

I found the walk to be quite pleasant and for those who have difficulty walking, electric buggies are available, though they come at an extra cost. It’s worth making the trek though, as the views are more than rewarding.

This place is ideal for nature lovers and families. The park is well-maintained and has a small cafe where you can grab a cup of coffee after the walk.

Important Tips:

  • Entry Fee: Rs. 200 per person, with an additional Rs. 50 for camera use.
  • Activities: Sightseeing, spotting the Nilgiri Tahr, enjoying the scenic beauty of the Anamudi Peak, and taking short treks.
  • Best Time to Visit: Between November and April. If you enjoy mist and cool weather, visiting during the monsoon is also a great option.
  • What to Bring: Comfortable walking shoes, water, a raincoat if visiting during the rainy season, and your camera to capture the stunning views!

Attukal Waterfalls: My Experience

Attukal Waterfalls in Munnar is a truly peaceful and scenic spot that I absolutely loved visiting. The sound of the water crashing down and the mist in the air make it a great escape from the busy life. The falls are surrounded by green hills and tea plantations, adding to the beautiful scenery. I remember walking across the narrow bridge that connects two villages, and it was a simple but memorable experience as the mist from the waterfall covered me.

The location is a bit off-road, so it can be challenging to reach, especially since the road leading to it is quite narrow. However, the view is worth every minute of the drive. I also found a small tea shop near the falls where I enjoyed some local snacks. While there are no public restrooms or parking spaces, the natural beauty of the waterfall makes up for the lack of facilities.

It’s a quieter spot compared to other tourist attractions in Munnar, so you can really relax and soak in the peaceful surroundings. You can't swim here, but just being near the falls is refreshing enough.

Important Tips:

  • Entry Fee: None. It’s free to visit, which makes it perfect for families.
  • Activities: Enjoy the scenic views, take photos, and grab a cup of tea from the nearby shop. Walking on the bridge and feeling the mist of the waterfall is a must.
  • Best Time to Visit: Monsoon season (June to September) is the best time to visit, as the falls are at their most powerful. However, even during other times of the year, the view is still beautiful.

Wonder Valley Adventure and Amusement Park: My Experience

Wonder Valley Adventure and Amusement Park is a unique destination near Munnar, perfect for thrill-seekers and families looking to enjoy some outdoor adventure. I visited the park during my trip and was surprised by the variety of activities it offers. It’s located about 13 km from Munnar, making it an easy getaway for some action-packed fun.

The park has two main sections: the Adventure Zone, where you can try activities like ziplining, rope challenges, and other thrilling games, and the Amusement Zone, which is more laid back with rides for families and kids.

While the adventure activities were exciting, some equipment felt a bit worn out. It’s best enjoyed if you’re visiting with a group, as many activities are perfect for friends or family. However, it might not be as fun for couples looking for a quiet time.

Important Tips:

  • Entry Fee: Around ₹1000 per person, which includes access to all activities.
  • Activities: Ziplining, rope challenges, ATV rides, rock climbing, bull rides, and more. Some activities were under maintenance when I visited, so check ahead if you have specific interests.
  • Best Time to Visit: Morning hours are best if you want to enjoy the park without the crowd. It’s open year-round, but avoid rainy days for safety reasons on outdoor activities.

Yes, Munnar is well-connected by road. Buses are available from cities like Kochi and Aluva. However, for a more comfortable and flexible journey, I recommend hiring a taxi or driving yourself.

Yes, Rajamalai is home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, a rare mountain goat. If you're lucky, you can spot them while walking up the hill. The park is also known for its beautiful views of the Anamudi Peak.

Yes, Munnar offers several adventure activities. If you're looking for thrill, Wonder Valley Adventure and Amusement Park is a great place to visit. Activities include ziplining, ATV rides, rope challenges, and more.

Munnar is around 240 km from Ooty, and the journey takes 7-8 hours by car. This scenic route passes through tea plantations, forests, and hills.
